Day 20 - Monday, September 22, 2014

                                                        Native doll in Ash Tree

Temperature around 15 degrees Celsius all day.  Saw Monarchs on 3 separate occasions, the last two feeding on red clover.  I wonder if they know that autumn has started.  They better be on their way to warmer climes.  Expecting 37 degrees Farenheit overnight.

A little surprised that I got my first blister today: noticed at the 333th km.  Not sure why.

We continue to walk US route 5 which is not too busy and where the Connecticut River runs along it a great deal of the time.

The highlight of the day came after we were finished our walk today.  Part of Quechee State Park includes the Quechee Gorge.  Here is a view from the bridge.  We have yet to walk down there and back.

"The focal point of the park is Vermont’s deepest gorge, formed by glacial activity approximately 13,000 years ago."

Way before my great-great-great-great-great-great-great-grandmother Abigail's time or for that matter, her mother Mehitable Nims.

We enjoyed the warmth of the fire after Dean had split some of the hard yellow birch that was left at our campsite.  So far we have been lucky to get free wood at 2 of our 3 campsites!
